I've been playing quite a bit more today, and while no direct entry is possible afaik it's still reasonably usable. Question is would you pay well over twice the money for that feature (AOR) the more I use it the more I'm getting used to it and think my initial disappointment may have been hasty, but that's not to say there are no downsides and it's not as intuitive to use as some radios. But overall I'm happier than yesterday.

Bottom line, this is the type of scanner you would find in a Police Car in the US, it would be pre-programmed with CB, other agencies etc and would be ideal for that use. It is not designed for the fiddler that likes to have a good old tune around..

in a nutshell you will still need a separate system to hunt out dmr signals which sorts of defeats the object, may be one reason why the shop down south stopped me from getting one.

interesting whistler was the code name for windows

It will search to find signals, DMR included, but is more of a scanner than a searcher..

As it's not possible to punch in a number. Are you able to search between a frequency set looking for a hit... Such as searching between 440 and 470mhz on a loop just to see if you get somthing and then save it?

This is what I tend to do on my uniden.

Yes you can do that, and once found save something direct to memory

I've got a Radio Shack PRO 668 - which I believe is very similar to the Whistler WS1080 (if not identical in it's features), I am getting absolutely nowhere with it at all! - obviously it came with the memory card loaded with all the US state band plans/trunking systems. Moonraker are stating that they now have UK band-plans on their models? does anyone know how to obtain these? (don't mind paying for them)

This, along with any other information that can get me using this scanner to it's full potential - i.e. Digital recieving/trunking, software to use, UK sources etc will be gratefully received.

Thanks in advance

The UK Bandplan upgrade to the Whistler is via the firmware, so if your PRO668 takes the same firmware (doubtful) it is all on the Whistler web site..

Oh right, I assumed all the band-plans were saved on the memory card. Sorry I am not familiar at all with these new style digital trunking scanners.

Any tuition that could be put on here for such devices would be great.

Excellent! thanks.

My PRO 668 has no warranty anyway, as I brought it 2nd hand (but barely used so immaculate) so worth a try.

I have heard though you can permanently lock them out messing with the firmware - rendering them basically a write-off if you don't know what you're doing, so I need to be sure of success!
