Hi first what are you going to listen to and have you got room for an outdoor antenna cause if you are going indoors reception is not going to be very good and how much are you intend to spend and are you going portable which they do get overload very easy with an outdoor antenna or base receiver.

You got two posts because you hit SUBMIT twice, hit it three times and you get three posts.

As Turbo said, 'what's the best receiver' is subjective to how much you want to spend, if you break it down to price ranges that you are willing to spend then a more definitive opinion can be given.

after posting it goes blank..nothing! when refreshed it posts again..so no fault here..as reported in other threads its the site for
some reason admiral.
anyway i digress sorry:
First post: (1) I can go outside for antenna.(2) hams or anything on shortwave.
Second post:£100 to £300 Been looking at Tecsun PL 880..But I've read that some people say theirs have died or problems with the
speaker.I already have a Sony ICF-SW7600GR..but the volume is sticking and tuning is getting a problem on ssb.
Forgot to mention,I do have a funcube pro+..But WRHD is not either seeing the funcube or not working as it should.

Having the best receiver is all good but it doesnt mean anything cause if you havent got a decent antenna you are not going to get anywhere and that can also mean you might need a few antennas i had and still have some of the finest receivers you can have it doesnt mean thet where all good and i got heaps of antennas i can choose from reason being i listen to aircraft on hf my location is australia which is far away from lots of places can hear new york, shanwick, santa maria, middle east, africa everyday but i have got the antennas facing the right position and lots of experimenting all of my antennas are cut for aircraft band frequencies.

Best for what purpose? What criteria are you prioritising? Is there a budget, or are you talking money no object?

About £180...I've got a funcube as I've said..but I don't really want to keep booting the computer up every time I want
to listen to shortwave or ssb.

The Nasa Target HF3/P did me for a while. It's easier to tune than the ICF-SW7600GR.

This is true, however it took me ~5min to add a 12v white LED with built in resistor, just behind the display :)

I have one of these, I think mine is branded as LOWE, it has like a phono socket for the antenna, they take a while to get used to the fast/slow tuning.

Be careful on eBay of the chancers that want over £100 for them, and I've seen them closer to £150, they are a £50 radio all day long.

They ain't worth a ton or more thats for sure but that what they selling for. I got an HF3 but much prefer my cheapo Tecsun PL600.
