Re: crt ss9900 anyone?
Yes it does every 5th time - it's pa volume level but in my case it came up every time when mode was depressed. Intermittent contact I suppose made flash scroll through the modes where VOLUME appeared to stay on constantly due to this. Humidity could be the reason?
Got it open the other day and I am horrified. This dreadful soldered edge connector between main pcb and front panel is just asking for troubles. Reminds me old classic silver bezel Cobra 19 and equally classic fault of cracked joints / dry joints on same type job. Not to mention a few overheated and lifted tracks then patched with a whisker wire. I am wondering if CRT stands for Crack Repaired Tracks or Customer Returned Transceivers.

Resistance is futile.

At least they are consistent.

There is no such thing as a Fidelity 1000 which is too good to scrap.

Re: crt ss9900 anyone?
Mine's still going strong and receiving nothing but good reports.
Serial number is CRT2014060018 and was sold by Knights on 3/11/14.
I think, from personal use, they're s decent little radio.

dont get me wrong when it works its not a bad anyclone variant only hard bit for me is on ssb and having to press buttons all the time to go through band tho i did leave it on the first digit and use the mike button
having split capability and 60 watts is defo a good thing in my book apart from a radio that works

That's what HF kit is for, it sits there next to the CB. I'd rather have an echo than 10m on a CB, if I had to make a choice. Just had an hour long chinwag on the local net on USB, no 5 & 9, got your callsign in the book, 73s, I want to get a few more in the logbook. Even the chairman for the night, who is a G4 and tells you his callsign, then goes onto say that he's running 50w and that tonight he is using a Nato 2000.
Repeaters are for 2m mobile use.

(Foreign) repeaters are for inter G contacts on 10 FM
I've not used repeaters on 2 metres for years (despite GB3LM being in my home city) much sooner use simplex

Re: crt ss9900 anyone?
We'll agree to disagree on this. I would just say, that my point was, horses for courses, HF rig will do the 10m repeater all you like. I wouldn't have echo on my HF stuff and if it came with it, I wouldn't use it.G8YMW wrote:(Foreign) repeaters are for inter G contacts on 10 FM
But on CB, the rig is for a different use. They both have their time and place, and both are an enjoyable hobby.
2m simplex is nice, I live near a motorway, so I get a few shouts round my way. I didn't like repeaters at all when I first started, I thought it was somehow, like cheating. But for mobile, the practicality overrules this.

Nope, I do not "dx", specially on a joke radio.
"DX" with a split on CB? Is that silly idea reaching CB radio now or I am missing something here?
