Kenwood IF-10C ??

Post by Mattylad »

Hello, does anyone remember the IF-10C TTL to RS232 conversion board for the Kenwood radios?

Apart from looking for one cheaper than the $80 one being sold now, I'm thinking of making one.

Big question is about the UPD8251afc chip - does this need any programming? I can see one for £4 on the bay.

This was the point, the 2nd was a bump.
I'm getting very keen to start this as a project but need to know the essentials about the uart first.

Cheers,

I installed this IC10 on my TS440S for CAT control. This is very easy to do. Bought 2 IC's on the web and just install those on socket, nothing else - no need to programming anything-
You have to add a cable from rig to computer .
Computer connection can be done on USB, in this cas you have to install driver to add virtual USB to RS232. this driver is easy to find. You can also choose cable connected RIG to computer RS232 (SUBD9) in this case nothing else to do.
If you need help I can search where I bought the IC's and the price I paid for it.
You can find a very interesting web page here: http://hamprojects.blogspot.fr/2012/08/ ... od-ts.html

THANK YOU!

This is what I have been after, if the IC needs programming.
I'll get one now and start a new circuit diagram in CADSTAR to make a board, I could use veroboard etc but I want to make it a decent job.
Once I have the IF-10C sorted then I think its pretty simple to connect it to one of the many 232 to USB adapters I can get on ebay.

No problem mate you'r welcome.
Depending whitch rig you have the kit may be different .
For. My ts440s it was 2 ic's intel 8251a and tc4040bp it's IC10 Kit , in yo message you wrote about IF10-C I think it's better to confirm these 2 kit are similar
When I installed my kit no need anything else than the IC and the cable with converter ttl/rs232 include inside USB connector for sale on Ebay around 13 pound .

Mine is the TS-680S so needs the PCB, but if yours did not need the chip programming then I suspect mine wont either.
This has been the big problem, in finding out because of the age of these radios.

Cheers.

Yes, TS680S need a board call IF-10C with wired connectors, it's the same for TS140.
I will have a look on TS680S modifications on the web.
If I found something interesting I will shere the links.
