Kinloss very weak through daytime.

Post by mikecharlie »

Is any one else noticed this, that Kinloss seems to be very weak through out the day time.....Kinloss was barely readable the last few days in the afternoon, picking up later on, but still not as strong as it is usually.......

transmitter low power, or transmitter site down.......?

tries Shannon 5.505, and that was banging in at the same times........so its not a radio, antenna problem here.

Kinloss have a few TX sites in the UK, what site they use depends on the area they are 'working' in ....

listening to Kinloss talk to S125 (weak).... then Navy193 and Kinloss weaker but both sides audible,
R177 both sides louder.

Hey,. Chris...hope you are well also.!

I have drifted away from the hours of HF listening the last while, tend to end up listening to 5680 in the background, and haven't done much HF faxing lately.

you quiet on the radio listening as well crusty?

Yes I've drifted also. Made the mistake of getting into building test gear, which has branched me away from using radios ironically. Bench full of started projects, need have a clear out and get back to it.

Could be. Might also be connected to the restructuring they underwent recently. Who knows, could also be as mr_h4ck3rm4n suggests. Their transmissions have been variable on many occasions in the past.

I am wondering if it is just a temporary weakening of signal. it picks up quite a bit later on, but only due to propagation.

5.505 and 5.450 volmets absolutely banging in. while 5680 is very weak, and variable. but not much more that 3 S points.

and as fas as I know, Kinloss only have about 3 tx/rx sites over country, each up to 10kW......I do not think that they selectively use some sites more than other, such as the nation wide coverage the HF produces.......

I think its a temporary lowering of power for maintenance, or its a fault worth one of the Tx/rx sites ,and it wouldn't be the first time believe me.......

I have noted to over the past few days kinloss is very quiet lately when its broad casting.

Put it down to the weather, but I can only just hear it with the pre amp on. nice to know it not just me having the problems.

There's a geomagnetic storm underway at the moment. Not good for HF reception, VHF is having a ball though.

interesting you say that crusty!, that is what I had thought as well.

and I remember that about year ago I made a post on here about Kinloss actually broadcast a warning to the helos that a forecast solar flare was forecast to severely interfere with the Hf communication s that day.

yesterday It sounded a lot louder at the same time, but today it has been weak and variable again, even one or two of the helicopters were louder on some occasions..it is strange.

5505 and 5450 were thundering though......something funny going on.

now there is interference from a stanag signal that is degrading the channel......seems to be the last week, seems to start transmitting at about 18.00 Hrs........why the hell do they not change to some other 5 meg channel.......5699 was / is a military use channel....etc

and still the channel at some times of the day, the signal is woefully weak, and even some of the mobiles have reported that they are 'barely readable', and 'extremely quiet' and 'very weak'.....

They seem to be around 5698 KHz this evening.
That STANAG signal really is right on top of 5680 KHz.
