Don't assume that everything Olympic uses Apollo (Airwave). As I understand that that is primarily for LOGOC, IOC, and national teams. It's quite possible that there would be some people there using Apollo, but that doesn't mean all comms would be on Apollo.
Specific events such as you mention often use Short Term Hire frequencies, now renamed "Business Radio (Suppliers Light)" in order to keep some bureaucrat in a job.

I went to hyde park yesturday for the coca cola thing. I seen there was using kenwood radios and bigish antennas but im not 100% sure they are digital. (This is a consert but the olympics flag come aftherthelad wrote:Think most of the Olympic games are on an Airwave system.

Re: hyde park london anyone?
They were using MotoTRBO DP3400 sets. All communication devices (other than mobile phones) are banned in Olympic venues anyway, so I didn't fancy risking it with a few hundred pounds worth of radio equipment.
All staff/volunteers in the Olympic park were using MTP850 sets on the Apollo network. Some sponsors were using dPMR, and St John (providing perimeter medical cover) were using either analogue or IDAS digital PMR.

I was in the 250.000 crowd at Hyde park during the Triathlon ,Didnt notice what radios were in use but i did get a picy of the Brownlee bros who won gold and bronze . I bet they couldnt hear anything from there radios , i couldnt hear a thing from the commentry tanoys because of the racket from them three damned hellicopters above the race .
