Mono Band Mobile Whips - any experiences?

I have a set of Watson monobanders from 80m - 10m. I use them with a triple mag used only when stationary with my mobile kit.

As previously stated, the lower the band, the narrower the bandwidth but I fitted a battery tray into my LDG Z100 plus ATU for portable and mobile use. You may be able to do that with your LDG tuner or consider another one for portable use.

Quite happy with antennas here. Watson & ProAm I think are the same design.

The 80m whip that I ordered over a week ago from eBay hasn't materialised yet, so I contacted the guy and he's sending out another. Probably Royal Mail to blame as usual, if I end up with two then one will be sent back. If nothing appears shortly, then I'll be asking for a refund.

Old thread I know but I'm looking to purchase mono band antennas for use on a mag mount static mobile. Quick question: is there a problem with placing 2 mag mounts on the car roof one with a 20m twig and the other day a 40m twig and using an antenna switch when I change bands? Thanks. Tim.

If you have an ATU then a 20m twig will cause no significant loss when used on 40m, yes some, but not enough to lose a contact.

Thanks for the reply. Do you think a yeasu 450d's internal tuner should help a 20m antenna resonate on 40?

A good ATU will bring the ohms down to an acceptable level, my 10m mobile works well on 20m without an ATU.

Ah right cheers. Failing that do you think my original idea of two mag mounts holding 2 twigs with an Antenna switch to flip between when changing bands would work? Thinking of the Ampro range of mobile HF antennas.

My personal choice of HF twig is AMPRO, I have 10 and 40, they cover all of the bands with an ATU, but yes, two on the roof won't interfere too much with each other while one is active and one passive.
