G4ILO.com - Website / respository
http://www.g4ilo.com/
This is the personal website of the greatly-admired and respect HAM radio operator, G4ILO, Julian.
Julian took the time and effort to document his many radio activities on this website. He had a wealth of information at his fingertips and has managed to amass a good deal of that on his site.
Julian particularly enjoyed QRP operations, as well as 'stealth' antennas, the designs of which have helped HAMS around the world get on the air with as little fuss as-possible and allowed them to enjoy their hobby despite their restrictions. He was also a talented software engineer and many of his applications are still available and come highly recommended by fellow radio ops.
Julian sadly passed away last month, but I thought his website was worth mentioning and highlighting so that those whom haven't yet read through it could have the chance to do so, in case it were to go offline following his death, as I am unsure if anyone else will be taking over the maintenance and upkeep.
Enjoy, and if you try any of Julian's projects, be sure to sign the visitor's book. I know he won't be around to reply, but I'd like to think that wherever he may be now, he'll get the message.
RIP Julian, a great loss to his friends and family, and to the Radio community around the world.

Re: G4ILO.com - Website / respository
It was only last week that I stumbled upon Julian's blogs while researching fake Diamond and Nagoya antennae.
He was great at blogging, straight down the line, and it made for good reading.
Hadn't it been for finding His blogs re' the aforementioned, I would of no doubt bought a fake.
A sad loss, and may he RIP.

I may take a mirror of the site just in case it goes offline.

Jodie found a site that archives it off to a PDF for you, so there is a PDQ version available (450+ pages mind), but I think it is searchable for keywords, so is useful.

I may have a mirror site ready in a few days. I think I've managed to successfully mirror his site to my server

That's excellent work FJ. Not sure if we should ask permission of his widow or not first though..... That's been on my mind after the original post.FakeJake wrote:I may have a mirror site ready in a few days. I think I've managed to successfully mirror his site to my server
What are member's opinions on this? I mean, we're not trying to pass his work off as anyone else's, just preserve it as-is for future generations of Radio enthusiast. :-/

If its mirrored whole then there are no issues on that side of things - however it may be an idea if someone could write to Olga in a few weeks and explain what's been done, and why - it might be distressing of its stumbled across unexpectedly by a family member in the future?

IMO before anything like that is made live then you MUST ask permission of the family first.
To not do so could cause all sorts of problems.
As great to have the info may be - its not yours & copyright belongs to the owner.

If someone knows them personally then that would be best. If not I shall contact them myself somehow before anything is published.
Thanks for the advice guys

Could the contact be done through the chap who posted the message about Julian's passing on the RSGB website?, I think he was a friend of Julian's.

Just to add, I haven't been on here much of late, but I remember Julian and his struggle with illness for a while.
I came across him on here. Top fella.
Glad to hear someone is managing his site. RIP Julian.
