Re: VHF CB
I don't know about you, but I'm listening to 19.
147.190 that is. Nothing yet, but I am a bit out in the boonies here.

That's the radio programmed from 1/40. Nothing heard, I'll keep on scanning.

Re: VHF CB
Are we really going to pirate these frequencies? If so what would happen if Ofcom caught you?

Re: VHF CB
The beauty of it is that Ofcom can't throw the old ''Interfering with emergency services'' chestnut at you.
The whole reason that these frequencies are up for grabs in the first place is that the Emergency Services handed them back, because they didn't want them any more.
Their only argument could be ''We might have wanted to sell them to somebody one day''.
It just remains to agree on a frequency. I thought of something 'a couple of megs north' of 2m for no other reason than it is easier to nibble an inch or so off a 2m antenna than to stick bits onto it.
Maybe go up a bit from 147.
Above, they are talking about 147 to 147.5 for listening to satellites. Sounds a nice idea and it would be a shame to scupper that, because they might use it in schools etc.
148.01 to 148.20 ?????
You're not going to use forty channels in a month of Sundays. Why not just the first 20?
OK, make it 23, for Auld Lang Syne

Re: VHF CB
So ....
148.01 to 148.23
10W RMS on FM and AM ... 25W PEP on SSB and PSK etc.
Moderated deviation / modulation due to 10kHz channel spacing.
Unlimited antennas but no linears.
Use quality 'opened' 2m gear.
Wotcha reckon ?????

Re: VHF CB
Now I am calling on all our scanner enthusiasts.
Please can you carry out a survey of 148.00MHz to 148.240MHz for us, between now and the last day of the month, to make absolutely sure that there is nothing really important using this slot????
Let's show 'them' that 'we' can do it properly.

Re: VHF CB
You've all gone quiet.
Do you need nanny to tell you what you 'can' do ????
Any action is only 'wrong' if it generates a victim.
148? Who is the victim?
The Emergency Services don't want it any more.

Re: VHF CB
148-149 is in use (paired with 139.5 to 140.5) and isn't part of the bands given up by the emergency services. I think your plan is better off between 143 and 148

Re: VHF CB
Thanks for that Roger. I didn't know that. As you can tell, this is not 'my' part of the spectrum.RogerD wrote:148-149 is in use (paired with 139.5 to 140.5) and isn't part of the bands given up by the emergency services. I think your plan is better off between 143 and 148
How about just 'under' 2 meters instead - like 143 itself? Anything important there? Would we be 'harming' anybody?

Re: VHF CB
I reckon that puts you right in the middle of the band used by the utility companies! Should be fun for you!ChrisCSL wrote:So ....

And whats with the AM and SSB? The proponents of VHF CB say they need a dependable "local" service. FM or more likely digital would be what folk would use.

Fairy enough. Let's ban things from a pirate band that doesn't even exist yet.Windy_Miller wrote:I reckon that puts you right in the middle of the band used by the utility companies! Should be fun for you!ChrisCSL wrote:So ....

Anyway, I think I've got the hang of TM1 now. Forget the birth of VHF CB, what I really want to know is:
SURVEY: What colour is your Mouse Mat ??????
I'm not interested in the answer, and will not even post on that thread again, but it should be good for three pages of 'Blue', 'Red', 'Black' and other deeply meaningful answers. Then ''What was your THIRD CB rig?.
