I get lots of Chinese products being delivered here and the VAT and worse, the processing charge is very random at the moment. Two identical parcels - one delivered by RM and no charge and then the same item by the courier with the extra handling charge. I can claim the VAT back, so that doesn't matter at all - but China Post seems to have very random end delivery - anyone can deliver it. Even with the charges - it's still a very cheap radio isn't it.

I'll give it a comparison with the Retevis when it turns up.

I have a Retevis RT-82 (I hate the trackball) but almost tempted at the price. That's not much more than a Bumfeng Tier I only price

Probably not worth starting a new thread, but the latest edition of Ham Radio 2.0 unboxes the new Anytone dual band DMR and it has an interesting feature - it can store a (large) number of radio IDs and each channel that you program in has a radio ID associated with it. The example he gave was two hams sharing a radio as apparently his wife is a ham, but it would also be useful for people who want to use the radio on 446 without using the ID associated with their amateur callsign.

I don't think that one's DMR tier 2 though, so no good for repeaters.

AHHHH.... I am a DMR n00b, so please pardon my ignorance

They are sudo Tier2, you can receive repeaters with the plus version but TXing causes issues, so if you want a cheap V/UHF DMR earwigging set, and the capability to do 446DMR Tier1 or simplex then the DM-5R+ is fine.

I've ordered one so we will see how good, bad or indifferent it is in due course. I paid the extra $15 for DHL shipping so all in, it came to $102. I may get stung for import duty but even so, it's cheap enought to take a punt.

I'm likely to be sending my RT-82 back to ML&S as I'm convinced there's a fault as the 70cms receiver is deaf but before I do, I want to know what other users of the Retevis have found.

I like the Retevis better - but the reality is this radio is pretty decent - performance wise, cannot really tell the two apart. The RT-82 is nicer sounding - more mellow, but the GD-77 is OK.

In the video I spend more time on what is bad - and oddly, it isn't the radio - it's the stupid non-standard USB adaptor - the charger is the same as the TYT MD-380 uses, and my 380 charger charges the Radioddity fine - but the supplied usb to DC cable is 12V, so anyone seeing the adaptor is going to have some expensive problems with their phones if they try to charge them on it!

Display is simple, but doesn't need the back light - as it seems to be the LCD type.

Asa a radio, it's fine, just not remarkable.

Unlocking the software is weird though - and the code doesn't come with the radio. Works on XP, Vista and Windows 8.1 so far with no connectivity issues at all - auto sensing comms port too!
