Petrusse Pacific 160 No TX When Roger Bleep On

Hi all, having been in the background watching everyone’s posts helping each other out here I am with a bit of a query.

I have got a Petrusse Pacific 160 with a PTBM125A4X board. It’s suddenly stopped transmitting when the roger bleep is turned on. It does not go into TX but sounds the Roger bleep at full volume out of the speaker.

When the bleep is switched off it goes into TX as normal when I key up.

Check Q2 on the bleep board as that turns on the relay.

I have got it booked to got to Nick for a full work up but in the meantime of Xmas that’ll be something to look at.

Cubwolf I have checked Q2 or should I say I would if it were still there! It’s been removed and on the track side of the board there is a poorly soldered 10000kohm resistor that reads on the meter at 8.34kohm. This runs from the black gnd wire adjacent to where Q2 would be to one of the legs of R14?

I am wondering if the previous owner / tinkerer had an issue with Q2 and couldn’t get or be bothered to repair it opting to remove it instead, happy to go without the RB?

I have now put back a new 2SC945 in the Q2 position and removed the 1kohm from the back of the board.I have checked the board and all components are as they should be. Having done so the radio now goes straight into TX when powered up without the mic plugged in.

Any other suggestions gratefully received?

Q1 [2SA733] maybe damaged/blown which could be switching on Q2 which would put the radio into TX.

Just whipped Q1 out of the board it’s marked up as a JA101P which comes up on a cross reference as equivalent to a 2PA733?

Checked Q1 with the meter -

B - C = 6.58Mohm
B - E = 6.88Mohm
C - E = 0.L
B - C = .697v
B - E = .706v

Does this look shot? I am on a steep learning curve here!
