I take it then that the electret mic needs a voltage supply to operate and the 4 pin cybernet fist mic doesn't have a wire to ptt that carries enough voltage ?.

What's the min voltage required. So now I guess the four wires are clear. Two are the mic element wires the other two are + - .

And their is def no feed inside mic from ptt to take from.

That's not good

1. Put electret capsule into microphone. Screw back cover. Job here is done.
2. Inside radio locate wire going from mic socket, that wire which modulation goes to.
3. Unsolder that wire from mic socket. Put capacitor inline, + towards socket, minus to wire.
3. Soldier resistor to + side of that capacitor.
4. Other side of resistor soldier to 8V source nearby.
Grab a beer, enjoy clean, loud audio.

Hi Chris .

Just digging up this old thread as I'm going to do this mod to one of my radios . Just want to confirm . If you go back to using a standard old style element mic once you've modded the radio , then you're going to be sending +5-8V up the audio line . Will that not damage the diaphragm ?

Just an update to say that I did this mod on my Shotgun , and it worked great . It took a bit longer as the mic socket on mine was mounted on a pcb with header pins , but it all went well in the end . It now means that I can use the original mic that came with the radio , which had a duff element . It even had the smaller plastic cut out to fit the condenser element in it , so I didn't need to bother with the foam .
