Another Classic Saved From The Scrap Box.

Post by astradyne »

This poor 360FM was in a bad way when I got it off eBay spares or repair. It was as cheap as chips but it was as dead as a doornail.

Happily it's now all up and running and an excellent radio it is too. Lovely RX and TX. Some buffoon had evidently wired it up reverse polarity and blown the PLL, both adders, audio IC, both voltage regulators and the driver and output. Thankfully I found all the parts I needed from a scrap PCB, my box of bits and pieces and by ordering a new 145106P from China.

And to think, I was borderline stripping it down for spares and parts to sell...

Good stuff.
Tidy front panel, too.

Does the 360 not have an idiot diode - or was it too big an idiot?

Indeed it does have an idiot diode. It was all in one piece but done for. The idiot who blew the diode more than likely used a nail as a fuse (as idiots do) and took the lot out.

The front is ok. I'd say average for one of these rigs. Small ding in the bezel to the left of the signal meter which is a shame as the chrome is actually very good.

Are you sure he didn't wire it up to the mains Andy ? :) Don't think I've ever seem so many blown parts after a reverse polarity .

Maybe so Sammy. Not even the signal meter bulb lit up when I first got it.
