Nato 2000 extension speaker out issue?

Post by dipstick »

I draged my nato 2000 out for change, and pluged in my external speaker. and i can hear my own voice in the speaker along with a very loud roger bleep?

cant say i can remeber it doing this before, but not sure if i plugged in an external speaker before. on internal speaker its fine, you can just hear a very faint roger beep at the end of a transmission, but no voice when speaking into the mic. plug in the external speaker and its like having a monitor speaker.

any idea guys? all help aprciated

You must have the ext speaker earthed somewhere, the mic disconnects the earth from the speaker on TX so it acts like a PA when it doesn't. It could be your speaker end or it could be inside the radio, easy to check with a multimeter. Not a hard fault to fix tbh.
The perfect face for radio.

Also worth checking you have a mono plug on your speaker. The sockets used in the Nato like the Formacs etc dont like stereo jack plugs
