Wanted for ptbm059cox = 560pf mylar cap (C11)

Post by ghost123uk »

OK, I have a really minty Ham Jumbo on the bench.

It is suffering from a loss of RX & TX after being on for a few minutes. Leave it a few hours and it comes back, but dies again after another few minutes.
Some research on here tells me that C11 on the 10.240 crystal is very likely the culprit.

Problem is it's a mylar cap (and iirc a ceramic won't do).
Maplins don't do them. CPC don't do them. RS don't do them, etc etc, and I can only find them in packs of 100 !!!!!!!!!!!!! (on Ebay).

So, 2 questions =
1) Would a Silver Mica one do the same task?
or
2) Has anyone got a new 560pf Mylar cap to sell?

I typed in 560pf mylar capacitor into Google and it showed an ebay link with a handfull for £3.95 if that's any cheaper?
I appreciate that a free one from a "Good Buddy" will be even cheaper but I don't know what one is, let alone own one I'm afraid ;)

Ta for looking, but those ones are quite a wide pitch and the space it has to slot into is tiny.
Might end up trying to squeeze one of those ones in though, if I can't find any elsewhere....

EDIT =
I just remembered, and proved by research on summat called the "Internet", that Polyester type caps are the same as "Mylar"
Found a couple for £1.99 on Ebay, so happy days. Just have to keep my fingers crossed that it brings this Jumbo back to life :ugeek:

Can't both the legs be bent 90degrees in the same direction so the thing is vertical rather than horizontal? It'd only be about 2/3rds the width then.

Aye, that ^^^ is what I had in mind, until I found the more suitable ones.

All fixed now :)

Would like to thank "cubwolf" as it was his answer in a thread in 2013 that led me to the faulty cap.
Without his info about this dodgy cap, I might have been AGES piddling around with the Xtal and VCO etc.
