The resistor looks like a voltage dropper/ high low power, somebody removed jp3 to drop the supply to the driver & output transistors,

There's a K40 energising kit on the mic socket.

"An antenna with a poor ground using few radials cannot have a support mast grounded to the radial common point (at least it shouldn't if designed properly) There is no exception to this!

A friend of mine has just dropped off a mk1 here.

Some of the bodges that people used to do to these things is shocking. There was a +10KC jumper mod which consisted of two wires being fed though a hole in the case. One of the wires had a 3.3K resistor on the end, so that when they were connected together it went up the +10Kc

I am pretty sure it will be a good radio once it has been sorted out.

There is no such thing as a Fidelity 1000 which is too good to scrap.

It looks like someone has modded the Fine/Coarse control with a lump hammer.

I like stripping them down , removing all the crap , and rebuilding them from scratch . As long as there's no holes drilled , or tracks cut , then normally I don't mind too much .
