This isn't gonna give sammy the fix he so desperately needs, We need a uniden SSB rig that has been heavily screwdrivered with an unusual serial number

LOL I might just have something to interest him here....

A Taiwan R.O.C. Uniden Grant (PC-409 AC) AM/SSB....I've had this some years now, was pretty much DOA when I received it....but it's CLEAN, and I don't think anyone's ever been inside....I'd really like to get this one sorted....

Carries the serial number 83000018.......

18th Uniden Grant produced? I guess so!

Didn't TX or RX for toffee when I got it (barely switched on IIRC, I've had it a few years now stashed away)....

D37 and D38 were found to be bad, these have been replaced, and it's now fine on AM, TX and RX....shows decent modulation...

But in the SSB modes it will only transmit a dead carrier, around 10w in both USB and LSB modes....mic gain up or down makes no difference...

Finished changing all the electrolytics a few days ago, 2 or 3 were giving some strange readings...haven't checked or changed any of the tantalum's yet..

Before the re-cap, I seem to remember I was unable to align the local oscillators, I'll need to plug it back in and try again...maybe this is the area the problem lies in...

Not too familiar with these radios, more used to the intestines of 148 GTL-DX's and 360's :lolno:

Anyone have any ideas? Is DC getting in somewhere it shouldn't? Or is it a balanced modulator problem or an issue with the output stage?

It's a juicy one this

Cybernets (a few more)..

A few more, I forget...

Well , it was the 18th one of the production line in 1978 Dan . Don't know if they made them in 77 . But if they did then yours is probably the 1000017th one off the line :)

Now I'll get back to reading the rest of your post :)

Well Dan . I don't have the diagram here , but I'm pretty sure the pcb is the same as the old Madison , Washington etc (MB8719) . If it was me I'd just work my way through the service manual m8 . I'd definitely start with the local oscillator/PLL section first , before doing anything else .
