Uniden 400

Post by RG Bargy »

Guys,
I am new to forum and just making a return to CB after 20 year time out.

I have a Uniden 400 winging its way to me athe minute.

I didn't realise that is it mid band only. DOH!

I have waded Google to see what can be done to convert it to UK40. That's all I require.

So far, all I see are piggy back affairs that let you have 80 channels, not always with success.

What I would like to do is convert it to UK40 only.

Please advise if this is possible and at what cost/technical issues.

I buy and restore 1950's tube radios as a hobby and have the necessary scope/sig gen/counter/AVO etc

Happy to pay a member on here for your trouble if it is too difficult.

Thanks in advance

Michael

If you only want it to be UK FM, then take out the PLL chip (TC9106) and replace it with a TC9119 if you can find one, and then realign the radio.

It should be easy to piggy back the UK40 chip on top of the EU one and make the radio 80 channels.

If you need a TC9119 I have a couple here.

Nick, Black spirit is the man to send it to. It isn't a difficult job on these I don't think, and Nick's prices are very fair.

There is no such thing as a Fidelity 1000 which is too good to scrap.

All of the above, but just some inspiration, I'm half blind and have rotten arthritis, but I managed to do the 80 channel mod (PLL piggyback) in under an hour, maybe I was lucky but my (now long gone) radio didn't need any re-alignment. My message is that if I can do it then pretty much anyone can.
