desolder pin 9 on ic5(9dx)or ic301(9fdx)

remove the retaining screws for the font pannel to give you room enough to work.(9fdx) as the ic301 is located on the channel selector board
you can isolate pin 9 but cutting the track but i never cut tracks unless no other way can be found.
this is the way i do it and i have not seen it done like this
please make sure the pin 9 is desoldered properly before you continue.
insert a small flat screwdriver between pin 10 and behind pin 9 and prize it out

note...the pin will come out very easy if ANY resistance is felt STOP and desolder it correctly.

connections
straighten pin 9 a little so it protrudes at roughly 90 degrees

and solder a white wire to this pin (check your work and slide some heat shrinking over the joint)

solder a black wire into the hole that pin 9 was in

solder a red wire WITH A 1K RESISTOR IN SERIES to constant +8v on front of pcb right by the swith or (pin 16 of either of the 4008 adders will do ic5/6 (9dx) ic301/302(fdx))

you can wire the three wires to any switch wack a hole in the back ect and be as rough as you like but i will use the nb/anl (if you do want to fine but at least for the love of god find a ground and +8v constant near the switch and dont run three wires all the way from the back to the front)

first we need to disconect the nb/anl and make it constant in the on position.

there is two halves to the switch 6 pins 3 left 3 right
on the left side (on this one) the upper pin is not used remove the two wires and add some heat shrink to stop them shorting on anything as they are not needed

on the right side the lower pin is not used remove the two wires and solder them together and heat shrink them up

wire the nb/anl switch as follows any side will do
lower pin black
middle pin white
top pin red
yep you getting the idea add some heat shrink keep it tidy

the way i do it you can turn the radio back standard easy and no one will know you been in there

or if you dont want to do it that way you can cut two tracks on pin9 then solder the white wire to pin 9 cut where tweezers are pointing

then you must add a jumper to restore the ground you cut to the rest of the circuit

takes me 10-15 mins to do the mod my way but i have done a fair few

there is no right or wrong way to do this or any mod or do i think its better or worse than any i seen
i have no worries in selling a radio after doing this mod its clean,tidy,works,and can be totaly reversed and nothing gets hacked up

Newbie here, joined yesterday, carried out this mod this evening, works brilliantly Excellent post, very easy to follow..

Now is there a similar thread or any brainy peeps that can shed some light on getting the clarify to swing 5kc either side of twelve o clock so I can get on to the zeros to listen at least..

Hi . yeah . Just to protect . I don't like connecting +VCC wires directly .

sammy,s resistor wont hurt things and add a level of protection
protecting the +8v line from shorting out is an idea as well
if the switch should fail and the internal contacts get messed up there is a possibility the +8v line would be shorted to deck and do some damage to the regulator circuit (rare chance but possible)adding a resistor in series between the +8v line and the switch would be fine in this instance as well.
