Galaxy Saturn uk40

Postby Mojo666 » 30 Dec 2016, 12:46

Hello,
Could any of you gurus please tell me if the spectrum uk40 Eprom will work on a Galaxy Saturn base and show the relevant frequency on the display?? Or is it possible using something else.
Spectrum Said not.
Cheers

I am sure it would work providing it was the type for 3900 boarded radios.

I had a Galaxy Pluto from Nick with one of his PIC chips fitted and that showed the correct channel and frequency, and the Saturn is basically a homebase version of the Pluto.

Yeah I thought the same. Hopefully Nick will see this post and give me the answer. The reason spectrum gave was because of the frequency counter module and its incompatibility.

Sounds weird.

The counter takes it's input directly from the VCO (+10.695Mhz) , so it will show whatever frequency the radio is tuned to . If the Eprom works as described then so will the counter .

Sprectrum even list the 3900 eprom as suitable for the Galaxy Pluto.

My G.Saturne does UK 1-40 and displays frequency correctly. It's a conversion I knocked up for it, not a Spectrum one.

Might be better off getting a PIC chip one then, or maybe get Nick to fit one?

The main boards are exactly the same , so I don't know why it wouldn't work . Just in case , as Simon says (isn't that a game :)) , the pic option might be better .

If it's for UK Muppets then does it actually matter if the frequency readout works or not? So long as 1-40 are correct then I don't see the issue, and if the frequency readout does work correctly then it will be a bonus.

Well to be honest you don't really need an eprom/pic as they cover all of the UK channels anyway with a twist of the coarse clarifier.
I wouldn't bother with it myself, but I can understand why some would for the sake of making it easier to use.
