President RICHARD CEPT to export mode

Post by cb4ever104 »

Hi All .

Just in case anyone has the pleasure of doing this mod . Here's what I had to do .

1) Desolder both HI and LOW band wires (violet and grey) from the solder side and place them in their respective holes "MX1" and "MX3" on the pcb side .

2) Remove the resistor soldered onto the ALC VR .

..... and my favourite , which took me a whole 10mins to find .

3) R269 (isn't labelled), which should be 1.5k was replaced with a 5.5k . This causes all sorts of restrictions on the TX line . Both power and frequency tuning .

Anyway , all done now :)

I did this on my one myself.

On mine both the violet and grey wires were soldered together and soldered to the solder side of the board near to the PLL in a rather dodgy fashion. :eh:

The later SS-360 FM's from France are likely to be the same as well I would have though considering they are the same board.

You would be surprised how many miss R269 when reversing the modifications and wonder why SSB power is low and sounds distorted.

sorry for bringing this thread up from its sleep but regarding this r269 i have a black fronted richard and you say it should be a 1.5k resistor as they put in a 5.5 k i just checked mine and its a 3.9 k , power wise im happy with 5 watts on am/fm as i dont really use them the ssb power is 12 watts and will go to 15 watts , so should i change r269 to 1.5 or not as it also sounds ok on tx as well , my only bug bear with radio is wont do the zeros as ive said before it has a slide of 3 to the minus and 4 to the plus but if the resisitor is not the right one its a start in putting it back to more cobra ish standards if you know what i mean thanks guys

Hi . I'd change the resistor back to the value God intended (1.5k) . However , that won't fix your slide issue . I must be one of the lucky ones as mine does +/-5khz .

There is a resistor near the front of the rig that you change which alters the slide of the Richard. I'll have a look later to see if I can see which one it is - Nick might know?

R232 if I remember. Change it to a 1.8k or 2.2k. Original is a 3.9k installed. But maybe you have to realign the 16mhz oscillator after replacing the resistor.

Found it... I wouldn't replace R232 with a wire. A 1.8k does the job.

Yes . That resistor is critical to that circuit . It took me a while to find the right value when I was adding the COARSE control to my SS GRANT (EPT) . As you say Ralf , the local oscillator circuit will need to be realigned after changing it .
