HR2510 MOSFET FINAL

Post by 2JD428 »

i have been running my hr2510 with a mosfet final transistor conversion for about 4 months now and it performs better than when i bought it brand new. a guy converted two of them for me and he is now working my third one. all those other final transistor conversions are not worth attempting. just thought i would tell everybody a hr2510 can be made to be better than new.

You old cynic, next you'll be telling us you can't recycle old televisions to make linear amps...

i will have to get the mosfet number from my tech and i will try to get you some pics and maybe a youtube video of the radio in action. i am not the person to ask for the technical info just the guy who loves his one of a kind mosfet HR2510.

I don't think there'd be anything too difficult about it, after all it's a Uniden and they tend to recycle very similar output stages in every radio (like Cybernet and why not, if it works...)

The only kicker is the pinout of the MRF477 which would make it very messy if not done with care.

that's what i mean Cjay, being a MRF477 or even the MRF455 version i wonder what Mosfet was used and how it was mated up to the lincoln board.
certainly not a IRF520N or ERF2030 for sure :)

Ah, I see.

I reckon if I did it I'd want to see something like the Jackson/Later Lincoln MRF board, wouldn't be difficult to make and you could even make it a drop in with the relevant 'bias' components on it.

Pound to a pinch of that it's been wired in or has legs wrapped around...

Parallel mosfets to replace the MRF477?

No reason why not if you're adding an adapter board to compensate for the pinout of the MRF.

It would be an interesting one to see i must say The President Jackson with the MRF 477 Fitted can be replaced for a IRF520N Driver and a IRF520N final.

Remove L32 & Remove L36.
Remove TR502 MRF 477 & Replace with IRF520 FET & Remove TR503 2SC2166 & Replace with IRF520 FET.
Remove D501 MV1Y Thermal Diode and replace with a 5.6 volt zener diode anode end to ground of PCB or as some like the negative of PCB.
Remove D502 MV1Y Thermal Diode and replace with a 5.6 volt zener diode anode end to ground of PCB or as some like the negative of PCB.
Replace R237 with 100K Resistor.
Replace VR8 with a 100K Trimmer.
Replace R236 with 1k Resistor.
Replace R238 with a 47k 1/2W Resistor.
Replace R239 with a 47k Resistor.
Replace VR10 with a 100K Trimmer.
Replace R241 with a 1k Resistor.
For biasing you will need to play as i can not remember i think something like 3.8 Volt but don't hold me to that i hope this helps some one out there..

did one today but did it the lazy way to test ,,,,,disabled the biasing
changed the vr and added ekl369fn
installed a fqp13n10 (crossed legs)
set the bias at 4.3 for a laff and full alc peeked nearly 50 watts for a few overs then booooom (looked around 50w)
turned it down to 4v and dropped the alc and got clean audio @20w
3.8v got raspy audio at low audio levels
alc set to 20w pep 10w fm and running well (detecting little distortion @150w through a b300p ) std 477 or 1945 was clean
deffo an option for the future
