List of electrolytics in the JACKSON mk 1

Post by cb4ever104 »

Hi All .

I've got the service manual here for the Jackson but the parts list doesn't have the capacitors listed . Does anyone have a list of all electrolytics in the JACKSON ? Values and quantity ?

Cheers !

Merci Claude . I can see the restoration work that he is doing , and also there's a photo of the capacitors with the number "54" . Don't know if that means that there's 54 of them to change . Seems a lot . Well , I've got a standard set that I use for the PB-010 and EPT360011 boards so I'll just buy them and I'll find out during the process if I need any more .

Salut !

Probably ceramic disc capacitors. Seems to be a load of them in the pictures.

why ???

don't get me wrong and electrolytic's do fail..
but a lot of these radios are 30 years or older and probably never had a cap changed..!!
is this another american thing to adopt, re-capping every radio,
next it'll be swing kits and limiter mods when july arrives, and not forgetting ground everything in sight..!!

if it ain't broke don't fix it..
a simple cap in the wrong way, or bad solder can kill a radio, try asking the guy with the HR2500 that re capped a working one, he now has a nice door stop..

I learnt the hard way. I have broke several radios by messing around inside. Dropped my test probes in a few radios before today and shorted things out.

Thanks for the advice . I wasn't really asking for it , just a list of the capacitors and their values . If nobody has them then I'll track them down .

Cheers

...and when you found it please share! Just in case... :)

Last week my old mother found a cardboard box which I left in her house about 20 years ago. It contained my two Turner desk mikes and the good old President Jackson. To be honest I thought the whole lot was lost or sold ages ago.

I'll pick up the stuff in near future and believe me, when connecting the old PJ to the psu again I will keep my fingers, hands, toes and legs crossed.
I hope for a steady light and nice sound - NOT a small flash and the bitter sour smell of burnt electrolytic capacitors filling the room! :D

Good idea, one of the only components that wears out due to age.

Wonder if any of the eBay listings for kits contain lists of values?

There's a few people selling the Cobra 2000 GTL cap kits , but I haven't seen the Jackson . I don't think it'll be too different from the 148 which I already have . I'll start with them and note down any extras that might appear .

The title of this thread isn't "Who thinks it's a good idea to change electrolyics in a 30 year old radio ?" Someone else can start a new post on that subject if they like . If anyone has any information on the JACKSON then I'd be happy to hear it . If not then I'll post back with a complete list of them when I get round to it .

50v caps in a 13.8v radio :o
looks like who ever made the radio had a few laying about,
16v should be the maximum to use 25v at a push, but 50v ??

i can honestly say disregard the voltages above 25v unless the radio has some form of up converting power supply enabling up to 50v :)
