Noise Squelch in Cybernet 134

A very informative and well composed post there Ugs. The binatone 5 star isn't just a good radio it's the best looking of the 134's and tends to look better for longer than the others too. I got into Europe with mine on mid block last year and really enjoyed the experience. That squelch mod is very tempting for going mobile with. As the biggest problem with cb for the non cber is the hash crackle and pop!

The best mod ive found to work after playing about with these radios is put a 16v 10uf cap across the emitter & collector of Q14 this sort's the popping and banging sound out on these radio's ive found............

The Noise Squelch dose work well but they don't take to well to CB'ers over deviating.

This mod also work's well on the Ham International Puma but put the 16v 10uf cap across the emitter & collector of Q12

Although if I am honest the Cybernet squelch pop doesn't really bother me.

Hears the mod for the Ham International Puma ive done and now its not popping in AM or FM

I might try it on my Harrier CB once it is fixed just to see what happens.

What I would be more interested in though is a mod which would make the TX audio sound more like a Uniden.

Loud, clear and full of depth rather than someone speaking with a peg on their nose and a sock in their mouth

Adjust RV6 to 9 o'clock looking from the front of the radio will sort that for you............

Any one tried the PTBM134 squelch mod

Is that the one where you disconnect a wire, disconnect one end of a resistor and solder it to the wire?

I tried it on my old Rotel but I didn't like it.

Instead of having a point where the noise dissapears, the noise gets quieter the further around you turn the squelch. Like a volume control in reverse if you like.

No that's a crap mod if ive ever seen one................

Yes Mr Ash I have! I couldn't find a 16uF but I tried a 10uF and was happy with the performance. Tried a 22uF and the squelch was slightly delayed before opening - no good!

So now waiting for the soldering to heat and in goes the 10uF. Cheers for the idea *thumbs up*

P.S. It's the Barracuda HP940. Next mod will be to araldite a 6pin mic connector to be wired "President standard" to the front panel. Mods so far: Mid band of course, "HT" 2nd IF filter, DIM reduces brightness of both the LED and the meter, and Ch19 instead of Ch9 with extra diodes to display "19".
