President Madison channel change 'pop'

Post by bluegrass69 »

Can anyone tell me if there is a simple way to suppress the 'pop' sound every time I change channels on a Madison. It didn't bother me when I first got the radio but I'm getting a bit fed up with hearing it now. I seem to remember a mention of this on a thread a while back but I haven't been able to find it again. Is it just a case of disabling or removing a transistor which hopefully doesn't affect anything else ?

Oddly enough i did a search for that same info earlier today and couldn't find it either, I am sure it was Ashtec [Paul] who mentioned it And i did it too a Cobra 140 i had here at the time cos the "chuff chuff" each time I changed channel really got on my Moobs, Anyway it did work with no ill effect that i noticed.

I am in the process of getting an old Zachery T i salvaged from a scrap bin up and running, Its all working now and i have fitted an Spectrum FM board and i am getting that slight "chuff" when changing channels which is no real big deal but i would like rid if any one knows.

I love the 'doof doof doof' as I flick through the channels on the madison we have here. I wouldn't change it for the world.......but I also prefer the push button bleep on the delta force turned on and hygain peewit bleeps.....I never claimed to be sane.

R198 on the XV looks to be the equivalent of R225 on the Madison , so I'd remove it and see what happens .

Just to let you know Sammy i found R198 it is a 100K & is at the top right hand side of the PCB near the back & is sat right next to TR45, i unsoldered one end of the resistor & there is total silence when turning the channel selector so it works a treat!! :D

Again.. Thank You so much for your help on that one.

Regards,Shaun :)
