Multimode II no FM TX Audio ??

Post by bigpimp347 »

decided to remove my multimode II off the live stream in favour or a ranger 3500..

so decided to figure out why i used the multimode..
it's got UK40 and has TX on AM and SSB with great audio (no honestly)
but FM has TX but no audio, or if i really shout into the mic i can 'just' hear something..

any ideas ???
someone has removed the bleep and trying to trace wires is a bit of a joke..
was looking at the AN20, but surely i'd have no RX either..

another point if i rub my finger over the audio chip in TX i do get the odd crackle..!!

You are on about a 059 MM2 ?

If it has AM/SSB TX audio then i wouldnt suspect the Audio amp, The AN240 is the FM discriminator and will be for RX only, Have you tried doing the FM TX audio mod too it, This might help.

While i am thinking about it, Check there is a long wire on the solder side [usually yellow] running from the FM deviation right to the very back and connected to the large transformer.

the wire is there..
on one multimode II it's on it's own..
on the faulty one it has a cap soldered from one end (front of the rig) to the VR leg i think..
so that might be the problem..

i'll be back once i've snipped it out..!!

May be worth checking the dev RV as they get crap on or fall a part if not look for the Fm stocky diode..........

Still it may be the cap soldered on the RV cut it off and see

not the cap, that was to replace the elctrolytic that was missing..
found a blob of solder to earth from the RV, not that either..
changed the RV, not that...

BUT..!!!

if i put my finger around the RV area, there's a cap or two under where i mean and i get some form of sound..
in fact i get decent sounding FM audio..
so looks like a cap or something has gone open..
yet if i try and short out various bits around there i get nothing ??

diode swapped and checked.
couple of caps checked, even a three legger thing (transistor) checked and changed..
but still no audio..
BUT stick my finger over these said changed parts and i get audio...
now i'm not one for sitting gabbing on the rig with my finger on the board fo it to work :)

if i short out the L wire which is next to the VR i get about 2kc frequency shift and spot on audio ???
the L wire had a diode on the end of it, removed that, still nothing..
