Re: Cobra 148 GTL DX - Serial Numbers
That's an unusual find to get consecutive numbers, especially 2 in great nick
I'd like to get one at some point just to compare to my Mk1's as people say there's differences in sensitivity etc. I paid £60 for a tidy one with the UK40 added (from on here) and the other I got for about a fiver in a swap from on here. Would like to get a 148 box as well as one for my 360fm 'cause I'm fussy like that.

Re: Cobra 148 GTL DX - Serial Numbers
I have been playing MK1 vs MK2 over Christmas, In terms of sensitivity I can't really comment techincally as I have not got a decent sig gen, however finding weak signals on low band and quickly switching between the two offered no real conclusive evidence in favor of either. The Collector wrote:That's an unusual find to get consecutive numbers, especially 2 in great nick
They look superb,

What I did discover is I prefer the rx audio out of my MK1 vs the 3x MK2's I own. Is the I.F. filter wider on the MK1? it seems to exhibit a higher cut off point at the high frequency end which I prefer to listen to (however as a result it's not quite so good for rejecting splatter from strong signals on adjacent frequencies).
I'd love a mint MK1, mine is a real heap of trash in terms of condition, it does however perform well.
Also have box for MK1.

Re: Cobra 148 GTL DX - Serial Numbers
I found the RX on AM and SSB much nicer on the MK1 than on the Mk2. The background noise on SSB seemed a lot lower than on the Mk2.
The TX audio was also pretty good so I am told on AM and SSB, but on FM it wasn't great.
I like both of them and rate them both very highly, but I wouldn't like to say which was better overall.

I don't use SSB (or any mode for that matter lol) so not worth me spending good money on one just to agree then

Re: Cobra 148 GTL DX - Serial Numbers
on consecutive numbers, i think i posted a while back.
bought an old Marko CB-444 and got a similar (carcass) of a rig of Ashtec which had the digit earlier,
not sure if that's rare as the radio is for sure, but to find say 123 and 124 after 30 years one on ebay and the other local..!!

Re: Cobra 148 GTL DX - Serial Numbers
Rarer I'd say as the buyer/seller of the Cobras probably bought them at the same time from the same consignment. To find it's next in line years later is a lot harder to do. Now if they'd be consecutively numbered Jentecs then well.....££££££

Re: Cobra 148 GTL DX - Serial Numbers
Is that a SS360 or a 148? It looks like the board should be a SS360 with PB879AA, the one with the unusual coils. Is that right?

It's a 148 . It's stored away now , but it's the standard pcb with the "normal" coils .
