concorde 2 low output power?
Hi Peeps. Ive got a concorde 2 that i can only get a total of 5watts max out of it, thats FM or SSB. ive set it up as far as my kit allows according to the service manual but thats as much as i can get. my hygain does a nice 15watts evenly across all chanels so im guessing the concorde should be capable of similar. any clues?

Well my Concorde 2 does about 20 watts on ssb,10-12 watts am/fm thats after a full tune up from the man who knows these sets like no other...

Re: concorde 2 low output power?
Seems to me that since the power shortfall is over all modes, I'd suspect the Driver 2SC2166 or Output 2SC1969.
I'm assuming that the fault occurred while you were using it, and it's not just a question of incorrect line-up?
There is a resistor in the TX strip which can fail (due to heat expect), but sadly i can't remember which one... D'oh.
Anyway AM/SSB power levels are controlled by a Darlington Pair transistor Q36 (2SD837), this gives
an output of about 6W, with 100% AM mod, and FM carrier.
I used to wire the mode switch after the HyGain V model, which connects the TX strip directly to 13.8V when on FM, giving about 10W FM.
But that was when 2SC1969s were easy to come by...

hi thanx for the replies, I'll check the resistors and the extra volts idea is interesting, i will have to look into that, might just do the trick.

Not very reliable, this Old Skool stuff.....
I don't think I have seen so many threads on the first page at one time with "I bought this on Ebay and it doesnt work" or "My ****** is stuffed - Please help....."
On the plus side, the original box it came in will give hours of entertainment!
