hi all,
I got a yaesu ft-100d a few days ago, its from the early 2000s.
I have been told that it sounds perfect when am in a QSO, but when i'm on a repeater it sounds a bit scratchy.
The only thing that I can think of is that I can't find a setting to change it to narrowband for the repeaters.
with it being an old radio has it got narrowband, if not is there anything that I can do to correct this or is there a mod that can be done.
any advice on this subject or on the radio would be appreciated.
thanks

You can set the deviation on menu #33, adjust to 2.5.

Re: Yaesu FT-100D narrow/wideband ?
Thanks for the reply
I have just tried it and I was told that 5.0 sounded better than 2.5.
It was set to HF2.5, I changed it to standard 2.5 and was told it was just as bad. I tried 5.0 and was told that sounded better.
I'll have to do a few more audio checks on the repeaters.
It's like learning all over again when it comes to this radio lol.

Re: Yaesu FT-100D narrow/wideband ?
2.5 kHz will be thinner audio due to the narrow bandwidth of the transmission. 5kHz may seem to be louder/puncher but can easily go over the top to receivers with narrower bandwidth filters.
You may have to be carefully adjust FM Mic Gain on menu #26.
I use a FT8800 on 2m. What I do is have the simplex and repeater frequencies in narrow mode in the memories. I have the VFO in wide mode. This is useful in speaking to simplex stations that are in wide band mode or using old radios. Best of both worlds at a press of the V/M button.

Re: Yaesu FT-100D narrow/wideband ?
I've got a ft-2800m that i was using for 2m, but got the ft100d so I can have everything in one radio and it was going cheap.
I'll have a bit of a mess, but I might just use the ft2800m for 2m repeaters and the ft100d for everything else.
It's showing that I've been away from radio for a few years haha.
