I have a few remote mount kits and dtmf mics left over from a business shut down, along with mounting trays and power plugs if anyone is interested.
Damn good radios in their day.

Would absolutely love some of that! What are your prices? You're in the UK I figure?

I have an FM1000 that was ex-railway. It's way off the 2m band but would be ok for SBL use. As it has a full front with keypad I've kept it with the idea of either obtaining a 2m or 4m back end.

Go for it! :D It'll do a nice PA4DEN conversion. There have been many floating around ebay for 2M, often without faceplates. Here's one I found for 17 pounds ships from the UK. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PHILIPS-FM-11 ... 1736493388? I

Hi all, don't know where my first message disappeared to but oh well, I've come upon a stock fm1100, vtm12 version I'm using for my local repeater, got no programming hardware but have removed the seeprom, dumped the contents and reprogrammed it for my local repeater using an Arduino, I haven't had much luck compiling qfm1000 so I'm in the process of making a stand alone eeprom editor, I was wondering with all the expertise on this site if anyone has documented the contents of the eeprom? Button assignments? Functions?

I think I had a shed full of these a few years ago, I say think because I'm sure they were branded as Simoco??
Although they were stamped as being made in England, they came to auction from a new Zealand utility company. Fortunately somewhere in between decommissioning and me purchasing them someone had programmed them all for back to back UK Simple frequencies so I was able to move them on easier than if they had their original duplex frequencies in as I wouldn't have a clue about reprogramming.
They all came with mobile antennas too so we did a bit of testing with them and they easily achieved 20-30 miles, and the audio quality on a decent speaker was excellent.

There are occasionally some on ebay already configured with the ham-designed PA4DEN firmware that gives it a VFO and everything for about €60 I believe. I have also seen some for sell on a FM1100 newsgroup. Unfortunately few people that have these seem to want to sell them...

About programming you only need that if you run them on their stock firmware, and we are actually writing software to aid the process of doing just that. You just need a 24C16 programmer and to unhook a socketed chip in the top compartment. (Lid that is held by 1 coin sized large flat head screw)

Hi funkygibbon,
sorry for late answer, but I'm very busy and I'm not "playing" with this rig for a while...
VHF and UHF frequencies are to be calculated the same way... Only difference is the offset.
For VHF I make it like this:

Code: Select all

    uint16_t rxValue = (uint16_t) (freq / 6250);
    assign(offset + 0, (uint8_t) (rxValue >> 8));
    assign(offset + 1, (uint8_t) (rxValue & 0xff));
Just divide frequency (in Hz) by 6250. The obtained value is the decimal "version" of two-byte value for the EEPROM.
e.g.: 145.500 MHz -> 145500000 (in Hz)
145500000/6250 = 23280 (decimal)
23280 -> 0x5AF0 (in hex)

About qfm1000, building the source code can be a little tricky (you will need Visual Studio, Qt libraries, Cmake, etc), especially under windows. If so, just try the pre-build package.
Building it under Linux is simple, just add dependencies using the package manager on your distro.

Edit: For UHF you just have to subtract a fixed value from the frequency, but I don't remember it. The procedure for HEX value remain the same.

I made some tests with CTCSS values, both in RX and TX, but I'm still not able to set a custom one.
Regardless of setted values, my rig starts with tone enabled in RX, with CTCSS value of 203.5 Hz (squelch opens also with 206.5 Hz, which is not a value allowed in FM1000).
I don't know how to resolve this problem...

Very strange, have you tried loading one of the premade bin files on the radio to see if CTCSS works with those?

ok thanks for the info, in the mean time i have figured out the frequency riddle to convert a frequency say 0x5370h = (21360 + 48000) x 6.25 = 433500, it was the 48000 fixed value that threw me

Hello all, I was developing a program for a friend and I used a 24c16 chip from a uhf fm1100 although the program I was developing was for 2 meteres.
I discovered that when I put the 24c16 into a vhf radio the button functions were changed and when I tried to rearrange them withg a pdp I got error no access, however I changed the eprom from the uhf set into the vhf one and the button arrangement was correct. I went on to program with the pdp and everything was ok. Parameter 906 gives the software part number as MP00315/06/ in my vhf radio but with the uhf eprom the sw part number is MP00315/03/ I thought I would be able to see the part number in the 24c16 when reading it with my Dataman Programmer, but I can't. I thought I could see some code that would tell me the compatibility between the eprom and the esquared. Has anyone else tried to figure out the compatability between these two chips?
By the way if anyone is interested my programming article detailing 24c16 locations and functions is in the September 2016 Rad Com page 44.

Hello, I noticed there's interest in the design for the Fm1100 power plugs, so i've published mine on Thingiverse for anyone with a 3D printer to print: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2984780

I have also decided the publish the WIP version of my FM1100 eeprom decoding & reprogramming software. It is not complete, but it does have the following features:

Automatic detection of whether an eeprom dump is VHF or UHF
Decodification of all 99 channels, including their CTCSS tones
Ability to export and *import* channels into/from CHIRP compatible .csv files (BEWARE that on certain rare frequencies a rounding error may cause the output binary data to be wrong & will require manual correction)
And lastly, the ability to export all the channels as a standard text file.

The application can be downloaded here as an EXE file ready to be used on Windows PC's.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/iq274lf10sozo ... _MAGIC.zip

(Tested & developed on Windows 10)
Example 24C16 dumps and the python source code is provided as well.
Anyone who uses the app, let me know if it works on their system.
Cheers

Steve

I was just thinking about the Philips FM100 and came across this thread. I have 3 of these radios somewhere in the attic I'll be having a sort out at some point so I should find them. Its been a while since I've looked at them, I know one is already on 2 meters and if my memory serves me correctly the second one is on 4 meters. I forget what the third one has on it but all 3 are VHF models.
