Hi,
I am putting a Heil HC-5 Element in my Yaesu MD-200 desk mic.
The Heil element has no legs coming from it, no markings at all.
How can I find out which is the hot side and which is gnd,
or doesn't it matter which way round the connections go.
Cheers
Clive

Re: HEIL HC-5 ELEMENT
No pins???? It should have two pads about 1mm in diameter and 5mm in length?

You are correct,
it was a figure of speech.
there are two pads, and I need to find out which is pos and which is neg, or if this matters.

Mine is fitted so I can't tell you how it's in there but you could try continuity between the each pin and the mic case... that would suggest GND

Re: HEIL HC-5 ELEMENT
Hi,
I tried testing from each pad to the case but that still showed nothing. I also contacted Heil directly and had the main man reply in super fast time.
Bob Heil replied and told me,
"The element is not polarized so no problem in connecting.
Be VERY careful with the small pads. Too much heat will lift them from the micro PC board they are on and the element is destroyed and not repairable".
BOB HEIL, K9EID
So basically this HC-5 element can be connected either way. Its worth knowing and sharing.
Thanks for your help.
