they are pants lol

they are over hyped better with the ft1000mkv

if its looks you like and your a casual user who doesnt operate in crowded bands and contests then it might be ok. Will be better than a 706 on hf

I've had my 2000 since 2010 and with my limited antennas there's not much between it and my MKV on HF.
I prefer the analogue meter on the 2000 but the controls feel a little more flimsy than the MKV.

If i absolutely had to choose between the two i'd keep the MKV.

I've repaired the preamps in about a dozen of them. If you don't have anything plugged in to the RX-ANT you shouldn't be worried about that.

If the only thing that seperates the MKV from the 2000 for you is the meter i'd suggest you buy the 1000. The analogue meter is a good thing but after the first coupe of days it stops being special.

I have had a FT2000D. I only sold it a few weeks ago. It is a fantastic solid radio. I had it since 2008, and never had any problems with it. There were some firmware upgrades for this model, but I never installed these, as I didn't see a good reason for this. Reason for selling.... I needed the money to fund the operation on my dog.

I owned it's smaller brother the FT-950 and after the firmware updates it went from an average radio to an awesome radio. The firmware updates fixed a lot of the problems with the DSP.

I used an FT-2000 and it was fantastic and I would higly recommend one. I don't know anyone who experienced any issues with one.
If you get one then be sure it has the latest firmware as the firmware did fix a few issues such as watery sounding DSP and the AGC recovery time that the early versions had.

They are a fairly menu intensive radio but that adds to the experience as you feel you are actually using the radio rather than just switching it on.
