Foundation Courses Liverpool

Post by kurisu »

Hi there, does anybody know of any foundation courses in the Liverpool area? would love to get to grips with the amateur side of radio calls rather than just scanning. I am willing to travel as I do drive but obviously not too far from Merseyside

Foundation Course is a single weekend. You pay for the exam directly, plus you'll need to buy (and read!) the latest edition of the official Foundation book. You then pay, via us, just the room hire and for food and drinks. I think that bit comes to £10 per day, so £20 in total.

You don't pay us anything for the course; it's all voluntary.

Next Foundation Course is early October. Widnes & Runcorn ARC, at the village of Lostock Gralam, just outside Northwich.

I'll PM some contact details.

Thanks for the pm, once I get a bit of time to myself, I will get right on to it. I believe I have a choppy of the foundation book as a pdf from somewhere. Am I right in believing that morse code was taking from the test?

Morse is still in, but you don't have to know any. You listen to some being sent, make a note of what you hear (the dits and dahs) on some paper, then translate it at your own pace, and then send some back using the same process.

It's fun, relaxed, and it's the only bit of CW you will ever have to "do", unless you want to take it further.

Hope to hear from you soon.

I heard the locals on GB3LI talking about setting up their own HAM club in liverpool, I was preoccupied at the time to hear everything but i managed to hear a website mentioned http://liverpoolamateurradioclub.com/

You could check out the site and contact the admin for more information about what courses they will offer.

Oop, sorry GM, only just seen your post.

There is, apparently, a train station in the village itself, although I've never used it. Look up "Lostock Gralam".

We're hoping to arrange a Foundation course for some time in February, if there is sufficient interest.

Course is over both days of a single weekend, refreshments and lunch provided.

There's always plenty of help on hand for all students.

Let me know if you wish to know more.
