Some people do this kind of thing just to get people's backs up. I'd be tempted to put out repeated calls for a fictitious callsign and when this guy complains tell him to use his magic DSP, like he expects everyone else to do. FM transceivers are designed for 12.5 KHz channeling, if he doesn't know that then he deserves to be treated with contempt.

He must also be a regular member of a club if he is invigilating exams, so hardly a fly-by-night, no interest, time waster taking advantage of an 'easy in' to the hobby.

I was thinking the same earlier, better be careful as all manner of rumours / myths start on these forums, just like the unfounded Peter King having 4000 cb's,all word of mouth etc.

Well the address listed on the home guard alarms site that Crusader posted is also listed on the QRZ page for the club member they are talking about... (his callsign is given on the club site if you look at some of the other pages)

Whether or not he's definite the same guy in the article and what the whole story there is, I wouldn't like to say... maybe WNP knows more than he posted?

Can we be very careful about naming this person please. Also, there's a whiff of 'witch hunt' in the air.....

Play nicely please people..... yes, he sounds like a complete tool, but just be careful how you choose to deal with that.

Thanks

It can only reflect the circles you move in, sure there are some strange folk get into amateur radio, but in general it attracts no more weirdos and wrong doers than most other niche market hobbies.
As for this often claimed idea it is a breeding ground for paedophiles, something that has been expressed on here in the past, where is the evidence for that?
There are strange "specimens" in all walks of life, that doesn't necessarily imply they are all "wrong doers", just that their lifestyle is not one you happen to choose!
And as for "on air" paedophile grooming or whatever, that has been claimed on here by some in the past, I am sure if any has gone on, it pales into insignificance compared to the likes of the "chat room", "facebook", "twitter", based internet.
At the end of the day someone "into cars" could be accused of having far more "mobile opportunity" to cruise round "picking up kids", than someone simply sat chatting on a radio, so should we state "car enthusiasts" are probably full of weirdos and paedos as well?
Perhaps you could furnish us with statistics to show the percentage of the total radio amateur licensees that are "weirdos", "wrong doers", or worse still, as claimed by some, "suspect paedophile inclined"?
Lets face it here has to be something "weird" about a person that sits closeted in some "shack", often surrounded by many thousands of pounds worth of "radio equipment", simply to converse with folks "all over the world" and exchange "cultural pleasantries", when for the same money or less, they could simply get off their backsides, use cut price air travel, and actually visit the very same "countries" they get their rocks off "talking to" at arms length!
And even in the process actually "see a bit of the World" at the same time, rather than just collecting "pretty world wide picture postcards" that just happen to have a callsign printed on them!
In that respect we are all guilty of being a bit closeted and weird I guess! ;)

The bloke pictured on the Home guard website is the same chap as pictured on QRZ.com,also has the same name...

https://www.qrz.com/db/2E0POS

so it must be the same bloke done for selling people dodgy alarm systems & swearing etc on 2 meters.
