2*0 done and dusted
10 of us sat the intermediate exam in north London last night with 9 passing (the 10th being a near miss but a good try by a 12 year old).
Looking forward to the new call sign and being able to crank up the power.

Very well done!
I am sure the youngster who had a near miss, will sail through next time!

that's what it's all about going from 100w to buying a big linearM6UCW wrote:

no offence and it's not a stab at you, but do you really think 10w to 50w will make much difference ??
glad you've got a decent callsign coming and not just going to be another 100w CBer with an M6.

Re: 2*0 done and dusted
Currently I only have radios that max at 50w and based on having a low altitude QTH and when mobile, the extra watts could help me overcome a few obstacles.
As for the youngster, I'm sure he will be sitting it again soon and has his father (a G call sign I think) to help him get there.

Congratulations.

10w to 50w can make a lot of difference, especially when the IQ0 trying to key over you is using 4w.

Re: 2*0 done and dusted
Congrats on the pass.
I'm Already reading the 'intermediate licence' book and find it very interesting indeed. Evidently: About electronics and more rules to abide!.
I intend to do the 'intermediate exam' hopefully, sometime next year.

Re: 2*0 done and dusted
Thanks guys,
User name to be updated once the new call sign is issued - hoping my latest end of Friday next week - my M6 only took a week to be issued.
dxgtlswr,
also have a look at hamtests.co.uk - good for exam training with a time limit but allow 15 minutes to do the optical marking sheet.
The electronics side was my weaker point but there's sufficient easier stuff to get a pass plus I had to learn to solder for the practical.
I have the exam secrets book however I've never opened it - just did up to 4 ham tests a day plus a mock exam last week.

Re: 2*0 done and dusted
Congratulations and well done.
50W is not 'QRP' by any means, it is 'Middlepower'.
Strange. For a site that is mainly thought of as a CB site with some hams on it, we do seem to be generating more new Werthers-Suckers on here than the exclusive 'Ham' sites do.
Perhaps it's 'the mixing' ... the 'crossover'. That's how I got started, so maybe it goes on.

Ah,but is the founder of TM1 not a G call well done on the pass.
Plenty are talking worldwide on 27.555 usb,
Some are too far up their own @rse to admit it,
Many happen to know otherwise dx-ing test free,
Showing a complete lack of respect for the law.

Re: 2*0 done and dusted
Thanks all
Since when was TM1 thought of as mainly a CB site? It's the home of radio, maybe just a bit over crowded by CB'ers and whats with the "Wethers-suckers" comment???
