Are you allowed to take a calculator into the intermediate and advanced exams?

Yes you are - I would recommend a scientific one for the advanced tho
You do get a sheet in the exam (advanced) with the formulae on which helps

Yes, calculators are permitted, or rather necessary. What isn't allowed are programable calculators, they are checked before the exam commences.

So is the pass mark still the same??

27 out of 45 for the intermediate?

There is no published pass mark for the full license exam. I think they evaluate all of the results from each sitting before setting this and they don't tell you what you got unless you contact them and ask them...

I actually think it is a massive oversight on the part of the RSGB / RCF not to provide the results back to candidate as standard after taking the full license exam.

For all the moaning that some people do about the foundation and intermediate level exams, at least you are provided some feedback on where you need to work.

For some reason, the RCF seem to have assumed that those who go all the way on to study for and take the full license exam will not normally be interested in finding out whether any of their knowledge has holes or needs improvement.

Go figure...

Yep. 60% for both of the above.

The Foundation is changing however.
It is now 19 out of 26 which is 73%
Although all the foundation exams we have run to date, with the last one being 4 weeks ago have all been the 25 question exam papers from the RCF. Not seen the newer 26 question ones yet.

Hi there,

Yes, you're correct - Intermediate has a pass mark of 27 out of 45 (60%), and Advanced has a pass mark of 37 out of 62 (60%)

Now that the Optical Marking system is in place, the Intermediate exam duration is 1 hour 25 minutes.

Good luck for the Intermediate!

Hi Guys.. Very useful info on here, I just came away from the Intermediate Exam thinking I must have failed having only got 32 correct. There were many 'catch questions' in there as I would call them. My advice to any student is to read the question 4 times and then read it again, they appear to be out to get you and its so easy to tick the wrong box even if you are knowledgable about the questions subject matter..... anyway I shall wait and see if my 32 gets me a pass. If so I will go into the Advanced prepared for more of a psychological intelligence game than a test about ham radio knowledge. Also take great care with the new separate answer sheet, you no longer tick a box on the question sheet but have to fill in a separate sheet containing just the tick boxes,,, take care to align the answers on this sheet to the original question paper and it will take you the 10 extra minutes to fill this in.... all good fun and keeps me off the street

The pass is 27 so 32 is more than 27 so you should've passed with that score???

Thankyou for the post, yes I am aware that 32 is more than 27 but nowhere have I seen an official pass rate published. No mention on RSGB or OFCOM as far as I can see.
