Taking the plunge

Post by MagicR »

I am finially going to go for my licence, meeting at the local hall next week as my introduction.

Only ever used CB before so this will be a whole new experience.

Hope the exams arent too hard!

Very best of luck with the course and the exams Matt. It's relatively painless to get a ticket these days as I understand it.

It aint fun up here in the back of beyond. I am still trying to get an 11m rig and I really distrust eBay. Not like 1981 when there was a CB shop in every town, my nearest one is in Glasgow which is a 4 hr drive away!! Ahhhhhhhh!!!

If you distrust ebay, wait for a decent one to crop up on here or put a wanted ad in the for sale section, better still, don't waste your money on an 11m rig, spend a bit more and get a full hf rig, one which will allow you to reduce the output power to 10w, in accordance with the limits of the foundation licence.

Good luck with the course / exam, I'm led to believe it's a bit of a formality if you're prepared to put the effort in.

Elgin! In a straight line it would take 90 minutes but the north of scotland dont do straight lines. Or dual carriageways.

They do tractors, gigantic motor homes, drivers that are older than some mountains, pointless roadworks, speed cameras and potholes that you could literally go potholing in!

Any of the present Yaesu range of HF transceivers can do 5W-100W in 1W increments (except the FT-817), great if you ever upgrade your licence like I did during the summer... ;)
