Hi,
New in here. So just popped in to say hello.
Live in Scotland, on the shores of the River Forth, near the bridges, so get a lot of marine hits.
Been scanning for a number of years, but still consider myself a novice, so I'll be looking to get some advice on occasion.

Re: Hey ho, saying hello
Most often is just berthing and position reports..
Quite dull.
But every few days someone will throw themselves in the water, or off the bridge, and then all hell breaks loose.
This kicks off activity from all around:
Aberdeen Coast Guard,
Queensferry Lifeboats,
Kinghorn Mobile,
Forth Bridge,
Air Rescue (from Prestwick, of all places).
And often random vessels that are in the area.
Just today there was a full on scramble when someone ended up in the water off the Crammond Island Causeway.
Air Rescue were out too, but by the time the helicopter got here the rescue target had been saved.
Casualty searches can be quite nailbiting, where strategies are determined by the tide and direction of flow in the estuary.
The first time around i was jumping from system to system, group to group, trying to keep up.
Now i have a specific system set up, specific for the purpose; 'Forth Emergency', containing all the relevant channels in a single one-stop-shop, so when something goes down i just hit button 9 and let the scanner do the work.
Last week the was a bloke with a knife kicking up a scare down at Granton Harbour.
The lifeboat was sent out in case someone ended up in the water.
Are you near the coast?
The sea makes for great line-of-sight.
