Indoors, sadly means you won't be talking to people from very far away, and of course, you'll probably annoy anyone watching TV, or using computers, because everyone will be close to the antenna. Probably the simplest is a simple wire dipole - 2.7m ish from the coax centre one way, and the same from the braid the other. if you can't get a dipole up, which with a bit of electrical choc-block is simple to make, because the room is too small, you can bend the ends at right angles a bit to make it fit. You say ground floor - do you have a garden that a bit of wire would go unnoticed?

The facts though are that if you did the old fashioned thing and stuck a car antenna on a metal plate of some kind, you can get out - a bit. With all radio systems the antenna really is the thing that does the work, rather than the power. Indoors, everything works against you.

Question
Do you need to talk to specific people using CB, or do you just want to chat? If it's just chin wagging, try network radio on your phone - zello and similar software. You can chat all over the world for free.

Do you have access to a garden at all? The Wire-dipole (as described by my Zello-loving Friend above) would work much better outside.

Perhaps you could give us more of an idea what you have access to externally so that we may have suggest a method of getting on the radio with some other kind of antenna or mounting idea....

Hi Archie. Ive just been experimenting with an inverted vee wire antenna in the loft. Im afraid i didn't have much success with it as the reception wasn't up to much. Outside is really the best bet if possible. Even a mobile antenna on a bracket would work.

Hi Archie,as suggested above you will be very restricted with indoor antennas, but a loop at the window/small mobile whip on a small metal plate geound to your copper pipe on the radiator helps lower the swr and increase the performance slightly.

Archie is a new local breaker who has been pushed in the right direction,he has an Imax outside now and a wee homebrew dipole horizontal 8 ft up along a wooden fence 👍
Plenty are talking worldwide on 27.555 usb,
Some are too far up their own @rse to admit it,
Many happen to know otherwise dx-ing test free,
Showing a complete lack of respect for the law.

Hello Archie,
There's a good vid on YT on how to make a very reliable T2LT dipole suitable for 11 and 10mtrs. entitled Very cheap and easy to make portable CB Ham antenna, well worth a watch.
