Hello from Exeter

Postby Chris64ex4 » 05 Dec 2011, 23:09

Good evening all.

Been on here for a few weeks now on and off;

Work on the railway and have been a shortwave listener for many a long year now.

Various ancient and not so ancient scanners (AOR1500EX, Alinco DJ-X1D and a couple of IC-R5's) a Lowe HF150 and one or two bits of latterday Midland CB and Motorola / Binatone PMR446 lying round the place.

Found this forum quite by chance and quite liking what I see so far! :D

I am. There are a couple of Midland handhelds and a Midland base rig that actually work. No proper base aerial installed yet, just a Tornado Stinger on a car magmount using the barbeque lid as a ground plane. Not that much going on on UK27 round here these days though. Various PMR 446's including the ubiquitous Binatone 950's...

Try channel 24, it seems to be the most active around this way, i get the odd person or 2 from exeter and there are a few users in and around newton abbot, chudleigh, and torquay area.
i am also acitve on pmr channel 8 and often venture up onto Dartmoor, may catch you so some time.

I'd agree with that, when the CB is on I usually leave it on UK24. There seems to be an Exeter area net on UK29 between 21:30 and 22:30.

Dear Sir,

Being a "Newbie" to this Forum. I have only found your Posting relevant to my enquiry regards the: LOWE HF-225. I would like to know whether you have replaced any Memory retention, Lithium Cells and any advice you can give me on this! and confirm the Voltage, for the HF-225.

I am thinking of "De-Soldering the Exhausted/Dead PCB mounted lithium Cell, and replacing with a "Wired" CR3032 Etc. (I intend to use some form of, Battery holder for this purpose)

I have owned many Communications receivers previously, but find my LOWE HF-225 to be perfect for me and an "Excellent" receiver for: £165 EBay!

I do not like the "Dull-Green" Led's and intend to replace them with, Blue/White ones, as there are only 3 on board, I will double up to create a more even "Backlight" for the Display & Signal Meter!

The Frequency is out by approximately 20Hz. (Not a problem, but I would like to know: Is it O.K. to tune a Pre-Set capacitor to achieve an "Accurate" on Frequency "Display" without any Test equipment, just manual setting!)

As my "First" posting/Reply, please Help! (I am extremely Competent with Electronics and can supply any Circuits you may be interested in "Totally" Free of charge of course!)

Kind regards & Best wishes,

Stephen Spencer

** Happy Christmas **

Hi Stephen, welcome to TM1.

Rather than dredging up an old and unrelated thread, it may be better to start a new thread in the 'HF & Shortwave Listening' forum and title it something like 'Help Needed With Lowe225'.

Ashtec used to be a prolific poster here a few years ago, but since relocating to Bulgaria a couple of years ago I don't think he has too much time for radio these days, and I would guess it highly unlikely that he'll see your post.
