AOR have pulled a rabbit out of the hat !

Post by Metradio »

AOR have just released a firmware upgrade for the AR-DV1:

This is a BETA firmware of which only purpose is for you to test voice decoding of the traffic channels of Tetra trunking networks.
This new decode mode is named T-TC (for Tetra Traffic Channel)

IT WORKS.... I just set up a search on the UHF Airwave base frequencies from 390-395MHz, adjusted the squelch as described. It stops on active speech - although it is encrypted - it passes the audio and displays the time slot..

DV1 searching between 390 and 395MHz, 12.5KHz steps, Airwave encrypted speech. The reverse video number (1-4) on the left is the active slot number.

Next time someone says that "you cannet listen to Police transmissions any more !", you reply that yes you can and they now speak in Klingon ...
The Airwave traffic is all encrypted but a lot of business use TETRA is in the clear..

It does work OK, but if on auto and running a scan through a set of frequencies it doesn't get any hits. I appreciate this is a beta version but hopefully a final version will work fully on auto settings.

I've been waiting for this to become an official full release before I installed it. Now it's in and the new mode shows on the selector, but what freq's am I likely to find business stuff on? Is it all mixed up with the encrypted stuff around 390 MHz? Sorry, I'm a dyed in the wool analogue kinda guy....

There is very little use of Tetra by business, but 440 - 450MHz is worth a look. If you are a WTR Browser user, Tetra is allocated 25KHz bandwidth on their licence - along with radio mics, hospital paging and call to prayer - so is fairly easy to spot..

Ah thanks Mike. Virtually everything around 440 to 456 seems to be DMR or NXDN (not much of that). I'll have a poke about.

By doing the Bandwidth search I manage to find a Tetra trunked system amongst all the DMR and MPT1327 stuff at Heathrow..

For anyone around the southeast coast of the UK 428-430MHz often produces French Tetra in the clear, Fire service if my schoolboy French is reliable.
my friend grafter, seems like you are using a very offensive tone in the reply.
