I am looking to buy a handheld scanner that I can also use at home with an external antenna, either a wide band vertical such as the SSS Superscan stick 0 - 2000 Mhz or a coliniear vertical such as the x30 or 50 ? .. no sure which antenna to go for, the neighbours will not appreciate a discone!
I am thinking of either the Uniden 3600xlt or the Whistler TX1 but having not used either are there any gotchas or major PRO's or CON's for either ?
when at home I already have a dedicated air band setup for at home (AOR 8600 + D777) so it will mainly be PMR,HAM,amateur satellites etc I guess.
Ideally I would like to be able to program and control the scanner from a PC whilst it is at home (Hampshire)
What do you recommend?
Many thanks

TRX1 works better, 3600 looks better...

Re: Digital scanner setup for use in the UK?
I have the TRX 1 and it's nowhere near as good as my old USC230-e for analogue stuff. It has a delay before un-muting whenever a signal appears. And on airband it doesn't even break the squelch for perfectly readable signals a lot of the time.
For DMR and NXDN it works very well though.
