Ofcom WTR info

Post by DX-Digger »

Now this new eu data protection rule has been implemented, does this now mean that we can no longer search for radio data on Ofcom's website?
I cannot find the search facility anymore.
Or have they moved it elsewhere??

You can still access it but not the way it used to work.
If you are on Facebook there is a group (wtr browser) which has been created for this reason. The owner has developed a program to use the data and show the results.

I suspect that when you take your licence out, it's normally tradable - so you are giving permission for your details to be made public. ~For info - the thing that is broken is simply the entry into the system - if you cached any previous searches, the URL contains the information you need to run the search. I've been using it continuously perfectly well. The data is available because it's valuable. I suspect the new data regulation rules are not contravened by the WTR data.

The new data regs require a system where the data can be easy accessed and can be edited by users. The WTR site does not support that.

Not sure what you mean there? As i said the WTR has gone and the new Ofcom portal system makes it so they comply to the GDPR. :ugeek:

....... but is sadly flawed. Use it to check some of your local known radio sites, and you'll discover that the simplification of the lat and long/NGR location data has been used to generate the addresses NOT the real licence data, so you get (in my area) Norfolk constabulary transmitting from a private house 5 minutes walk from the Police station, and a taxi firm operating from a Council House, that ironically has a discone one the roof - yet is nothing at all to do with the taxi firm. oops!
