Re: BEST STEPS FOR VHF MARINE BAND ???
Marine spilts into two sections really - Ch 0 is the lowest at 156.0MHz, used only by the coastguard - ordinary marine radios very rarely include this channel - so it's kind of 'private'. The ports take up another area, and then you'll find a few chat channels so although marine goes up quite high, I very rarely monitor anything over 156.9. Lots of channels are split frequencies from when people used land stations to do phone patch - but as cell coverage os often better than marine, these are nowhere near the capacity they used to be. A few business channels are about, but it depends where you are as to channel occupancy. Searching works a bit better than hairband because transmissions are a little longer - but best way is to look up frequencies in your area on line and then aim for those. Channel spacing is 25KHz. Be aware the channel numbering is a hang on from the days when spacing was 50KHz, so the numbers go up, then back down to the bottom and up again, which confuses new people.
