Sounds like a fair assessment of a properly aligned one.

It only has about 30 channels and the membrane keyboard tends to wear out

All the AOR base scanners have excellent AM performance when correctly peaked / aligned
quite sensitive too - the one I used to have was better than the specs

Regards

It was an exceptional scanner, and mine, from memory had twenty channels. It was sensitive and selective, and while the membrane keypad was simply horrible, as a scanner it was pretty decent. I wish I still had mine!

I have an AOR AR2002, It's needing some cleaning and a bit of repair done to it. However it is a very good scanner and when on AM, usually picked up the signal quicker than my Uniden BCT 15! Once I have had it repaired, it'll be used as an airband monitor. 20 channels all in however. Can't exactly remember the frequency range on it as I have packed it away, but I was impressed with it.

Of the two I personally would go for the 2002 as it has a VFO-style encoder, I much prefer this than just up/down keys, and it has 800Mhz-1300Mhz if that's any use to you. On the downside the fairylight S-meter on the 2002 will send you into an epileptic fit, it's horrible.

Cheers Admiral! That is precisely the frequency range!

The membrane buttons on the 2001 were horrible compared to the 2002!
