Funny enough visited a friend in Caerphilly today with my Uniden 3500 and the store net is also still analogue on 453.100 tone 88.5 and heard a few old folks on the 31 Mhz old cordless phones discussing their ailments and medications - sounded just like the hams on 80M :D

Any old cordless phone users I find is the older generation who are afraid of upgrading to modern technology. They will prob keep them until the family throw them out when clearing the house once they are gone.
I think the days of hearing young housewives on the phone to there bit on the side etc are gone!!
Ahhh those were the days lol

I used to pick up loads of cordless phones on my Ranger, thing is, if I wanted to, I could TX to them, which I never did. Usually just heard a load of old people talking crap to be honest.

It may not be an issue of being afraid of modern technology. Some equipment has never really changed much over the decades especially where the changes affect the users experience.

How much of a change is there to the newer cordless phones that would make people want to change? It's not like mobiles that went from heavy bricks with monochrome screens to touchscreen smartphones that combine a variety of functions.

Plus a lot of newer stuff has so much technology that when it breaks, it's a mission to repair compared to older stuff - cars are an example where mechanics plug a laptop into the car to find out the issue.

There is also the old saying, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

Not unless your Ranger TX's on MediumWave ! The split frequency duplex on these phones was massive. Base was just above the top end of Mediumwave and Handset on 31Mhz. You would normally only pick up the handset tx while the person you could here was listening on 1600Khz. The reason why you can here the other caller is it's being picked up by the mic in the handset. However, the distant caller might pick you up, with the base sending your tx down the phone line -- naughty !

I know what you mean but your thinking of the old 47 Mhz phones, (still a few of these around here) that have the following frequencies and splits:

.............................Handset......Base

CORDLESS PHONE CH1 47.45625....1.642
CORDLESS PHONE CH2 47.46875....1.662
CORDLESS PHONE CH3 47.48125....1.682
CORDLESS PHONE CH4 47.49375....1.702
CORDLESS PHONE CH5 47.50625....1.722
CORDLESS PHONE CH6 47.51875....1.742
CORDLESS PHONE CH7 47.53125....1.762
CORDLESS PHONE CH8 47.54375....1.782

All frequencies in Mhz

The 31 Mhz phones have the following frequencies and splits:

....................................Base.........Handset

CORDLESS PHONE Channel 1 31.0375....39.9375
CORDLESS PHONE Channel 2 31.0625....39.9625
CORDLESS PHONE Channel 3 31.0875....39.9875
CORDLESS PHONE Channel 4 31.1125....40.0125
CORDLESS PHONE Channel 5 31.1375....40.0375
CORDLESS PHONE Channel 6 31.1625....40.0625
CORDLESS PHONE Channel 7 31.1875....40.0875
CORDLESS PHONE Channel 8 31.2125....40.1125

All frequencies in Mhz

So it is possible to talk to the 31 Mhz phone base unit with a Ranger and be heard (ask me how I know :D )

Glad I've never entertained a cordless phone, for this reason..

And I personally find the idea of listening to baby monitors a bit weird? :eh: Each to their own though..
