Realistic pro 2006 back light

Hi

I have a pro 2006 with no back light, is this a common problem?

I do get the normal voltages on the dimmer switch so looks like the transformers etc are fine.

Cheers

yes very common,
you can buy replacement LED's off ebay from the US about £15 posted.
2005, 2006 and 2022 all suffer after a few years.

I've replaced the back lights on a PRO2006 and PRO2022, they are electroluminescent (EL) panels and you can buy small sheets (in various colours) which you just cut down to size (making sure when you do to include the contacts) I got mine from ebay (click for link) for just £12

Doing my PRO2022 and the more fiddly PRO2006

Sorry nerdsville but I couldn't help commenting on your use of the 'Clit Bang degreaser'.Sounds like interesting stuff right enough. :D
I've done both my 2006s in quick succession in the past few months.Seems that when you've done one,the second is that little bit easier.

Yes, I've ordered a EL back light, from eBay

Do you guys power it from the original source keeping the dimmer button?

Thanks for the link Nerdsville

My replacement came from the States already cut to size and involved a bit of dismantling, unplugging stuff, and a couple of nuts and bolts. The actual replacement involved unsoldering 2 little contacts, removing a little bit of glue, sliding out the old display, sliding in the new one and resoldering the new contacts to the existing terminals.Assembly was a reverse of the dismantling process.Everything is then just as it was before, dimmer button included.

Pretty straightforward, but the US seller did include pretty thorough instructions, which helped a lot.

Get scanner second hand, has been modded, has cut diode on back of display board, but has 2 cut not one?

Also has a resistor cut on main board, not sure why as yet

Good to know.Thanx for that.Fancy colours as well.Thats handy. When you read of the palaver some people go thru just to change the backlight colour on their display.

Bought one a couple of days ago for my pro 206 after dynamite40's recommendation, £5 with paypal including vat and posting. 45 minutes fitting (most time trying to find scissors {bnghd} ), works great. thanks for sharing the info dynamite40  .

regards tony

I've been looking at changing the back light for ages - its barely visible on dim and only a little better on normal. Great post. Still a fiver today.
