Hi im new to scanning. I have an alinco dj-x3 scanner. But i have heard of these discone antennas. What are they like, how much do they cost and how much differnece does it make.

They look like an Umbrella with out the canvas, and have a whip ontop. They are a broard band aerial that means they cover a wide selection of frequencies. Have a look at SRPtrading.com / Hamradio.com / Nevada.co.uk or by a copy of Shortwave magazine.

Like All aerials hight is the most important.

And it all depends on what you whant to listen to.

I'd recommend a discone to anybody, with a good pre-amp as well as the discone, it work's a treat.
