Cheap simple option for private link

Post by radiogaga »

Anyone suggest a way for me to set up a private ROIP link?

Looking for something I can run in the car with a 3g connection and another at home..

I have access to several cheap chinese radios and Raspberry Pi's if it can be done that way?

Any suggestions ?

Echolink, just lock it down to allow only your callsign to access it.
I run two links here, 144MHz and 70Mhz but they are both open and work very well.

Thanks - What hardware/interfaces are you using?

I made my own interfaces, much cheaper than off the shelf stuff.
I can send you the schematic if you want to build your own, very easy to build with veroboard, couple of 1:1 line isolation transformers, opto coupler, LED and a few resistors.
I use a cheap USB-RS232 adapter, cost about £2 off ebay or amazon so with a nice box, 9 pin serial socket and all the other parts you can build yourself a decent interface that will last forever - for around £20.

An off the shelf equivalent that will do exactly the same will knock you back nearly £100 (e.g. Signalink, Rigblaster etc), however there are cheaper units floating around on ebay, made by another Radio Amateur for £40.

Let me know if you need any help setting up your link, the only thing to bear in mind is that you will need to scan your licence or send a PDF copy to Echolink for verification which can take around 24 hours.

Yep that would be great if you can send me the schematic please... Can you link a googledrive page or do you want me to PM an email?

I'm a bit late to reply on this one, but Teamspeak has a good option for you... Using other apps like zoiper, asterix and a raspberry pi anything is possible... And fully accessible on most devices (Windows PC, Macs, Android OS, iOs and linux) as long as you have an internet connection.

Happy to share info if you wish, just drop me a line back or PM me.

Cheers,

Gareth
