Re: how to fit variable fm power using the car trio ts430s
Hi
My TS-430S was supplied without the fm board , the board was fitted not by me but give 100 Watts out the back with no option of varying it by the CAR control,
Hence there are mods to vary this using the squelch control reported to vary the output power on all modes ,
To my way of thinking if you set the power for fm using this method you then upset the setting when using the squelch,
So I was looking for the CAR mod

Re: how to fit variable fm power using the car trio ts430s
I see what you mean now i just noticed in the manual that once the FM-430 is installed the mic gain and CAR control is no longer used, I have just bought an FM board for my 430 and once it arrives [coming from USA so don't know how long] i will install it and do some digging around as i don't fancy the idea of 100w on FM constantly, In the meantime if anyone else knows of the information please let us know.

An old thread, but it would have more chance of getting an answer if the mods moved it across, not everyone looks in this section.

1. Power off, remove top cover.
2. Locate R178(2.2k), near CONNECTOR 22, just left center of the YK-88 CW filter slot.
3. Cut the top lead of R178. Leave enough lead protruding from the resistor so it can be resoldered should you ever want to reverse it.
4. Replace top cover. Dress speaker lead away from slide switch group and any pinch points.
5. CAR control now adjusts all modes RF power output.
6. Modification complete. wa9z 6-2015

That mod only enables variable power for AM/SSB not FMprettypolly wrote:1. Power off, remove top cover.

Re: how to fit variable fm power using the car trio ts430s
I just opted to do a low power switch [FM mode only] which involves a 1k5 resistor between D1 on the FM board and a small switch, Low power now 10w.
And yes i agree this thread needs moving.

So as this thread wasn't moved, (good job admin)
